ITIN Application Update: September 2026

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number is still the IRS number non-US persons use when they are not eligible for a Social Security Number. This note is the September 2026 update to our ITIN practice: current Form W-7, how Certified Acceptance Agent filing works, and how to send a passport scan that will not be rejected.

What changed for 2026

The IRS is still using Form W-7 for new ITIN applications and renewals. Processing after the packet reaches the IRS is typically 7 to 11 weeks. Weyvr still prepares the paperwork on a 48-hour turnaround once the intake file is complete.

Two operational points matter this year:

1. Identity is verified by our Certified Acceptance Agent. You do not mail your original passport to the IRS.
2. Passport scans fail when they are iPhone HEIC files, cropped corners, glare, or black-and-white copies. Submit a color JPEG or PDF with all four corners visible.

Who still needs an ITIN

• Non-US founders and investors with US-source income
• LLC or partnership members who must be listed on US information returns
• Dependents or spouses claimed on a US return who cannot get an SSN
• Treaty-benefit claimants who must file Form W-7 with a US return

How Weyvr files

1. Complete the secure ITIN intake form.
2. Upload a color passport scan (JPEG, PNG, WebP, or PDF, under 15 MB).
3. We complete Form W-7, apply Exception 1(A) language when an LLC is involved, and package the CAA certification.
4. You receive the filled packet. IRS issuance then follows the normal 7 to 11 week window.

• Color, readable, no glare
• Visible signature and four corners
• No fingers covering the biodata page
• JPEG or PDF preferred. Switch iPhone Camera to Most Compatible if HEIC uploads fail
